For the Boys
in .pdf format with bookmarks for easy access
I have just finished updating my cookbook for Banting/LCHF.
A new section on all the basics to go Banting has been added and the Stocking the Kitchen section now has a Quick Guide and is colour-c
oded to LCHF (so you know what you can/can't eat!).
Most of the recipes have been updated to include Banting options & tips, and new recipes have been added for alternatives to Bread, Chips, Mash, Noodles, Pasta, Rice, Wraps, low-carb Dried Soup Mixes (to replace soup powders & flavourings to casseroles, stews, sauces, soups, etc) and how to make Biltong (a great LCHF snack!)
The revised eBook is now available for those who want to load it onto their PC, Note or eReader (saves connecting to the internet!).
Enjoy & take care!

Banting/LCHF Alternatives for those dangerous Carbs!

13/9/2014

About 18 months ago, I was diagnosed with Diabetes (Type 2) which I believe was caused by a lack of exercise and having gained 15kg in my tender oldER age!  I had to make a serious plan to lose weight and decided to go on a Banting/LCHF diet.  After researching Banting & LCHF (Low Carb High Fat), I kept to the basics & lost 10kg with very little effort.  I must admit that the "high fat" bit worries me but I found that anything high fat is very filling and I can't really eat that much of it anyway (too rich!).
Anyway it's worked for me and I feel so much better already - only 5kg to go!
On the top right of the A3Recipes.com home page I have provided Banting Alternatives for bread, chips, mash, noodles, pasta, pizza base, rice & wraps.  Please try them and the snack option (biltong) and let me know if you have any other ideas or recipes which you would like to share.  I would love to try them and will publish them (with full credit!).  Take care, Barbs.

Biltong
5 Top Tips to making your own Biltong:
1.  Use Silverside - it's better than sirloin, rump or fillet
2.  Don't over salt - you will throw it away!
3.  Hang in a cool, well-ventilated place or dryer
4.  Use a 75Watt globe in your dryer to prevent moulding
5.  Freeze biltong in brown paper to preserve &
     defrost at room temperature

Crusty Portuguese Rolls
I felt like having wholewheat Portuguese rolls (which our shops don't have) and made these  - homemade bread is just so much better too!
I served them hot with loads of butter, and Chicken Livers Peri-Peri (to mop up all that moreish sauce).

Avocado Soup with Bacon Bits
Avocado Soup with Bacon Bits
I always buy too many avos and land up having to either make them into Guaçamole or throw them away! So I concocted this recipe to use them.  Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

Here's another LCHF bread and like the

it's also light, but this loaf rises better and seems more like 'real' bread.

A really good LCHF Sauce...

Pork Chops with Creamy Mustard Sauce
I served the pork chops smothered in sauce over Parsnip Mash with a Carrot & Capsicum Salad.
The pork chops also go well with Carrot & Turnip Mash, Cabbage & Onion Stir-Fry, Potato Mash or Cauli Mash.
Pork Chops with Creamy Mustard Sauce
Without thickening agents, LCHF sauces are generally quite runny - reduction is the key!
I developed this one which turned out really well.
You can vary this sauce by substituting the
* Cream with Greek/natural yoghurt, sour cream
   or cream cheese (full fat)
* Spring Onions with red onion, peppercorns
(black or green) or mushrooms (fry until soft)
* Chicken Stock with any other type of stock
* Mustard with prepared horseradish or any other
   type of mustard
* Parsley with chives, thyme, origanum or any
  other herb you prefer.

Baby Savoy Cabbage Cheese
Baby Savoy Cabbage Cheese
Savoy cabbages are very low in carbs (5.2g) and are deliciously sweet & tender and hold their shape well when cooked whole.
These baby cabbages are smothered with a LCHF Cheese Sauce and sprinkled with cayenne pepper to give them an extra zing.
